Bridging visas

What does finally determined mean for a bridging visa?

Bridging visas
Short answer

Finally determined generally means the visa application has reached an endpoint under the migration rules, such as a grant, a refusal with no review pathway left, or completion of merits review.

For bridging visa purposes, a visa application may be finally determined when Home Affairs grants the visa, when a review body affirms a refusal, when there is no right of merits review, or when the person does not apply for merits review within the required timeframe.

If a person withdraws their visa application, the application is treated as disposed of.

Judicial review is different. It happens after the visa application has been finally determined. A bridging visa connected to the earlier visa application does not automatically carry over into judicial review.
