Student visas / Subclass 590

What visa period, work and study rules apply to a subclass 590 Student Guardian visa?

Student visas Subclass 590
Short answer

The 590 visa period is usually linked to the student's visa and age, and the guardian is usually restricted from working and from studying for more than a limited period.

A 590 visa is generally granted for the same period as the nominating student's visa, unless the student turns 18 or an accompanying child turns six during that period.

Most student guardians have a no-work rule. Some bilateral relations cases can have a different work rule linked to the tasks described in the visa application. Study or training is usually limited to three months.

Guardian conditions can require you to remain with the nominating student and not leave Australia without the student. This is high-risk because leaving, working or studying outside the rules may put the visa at risk.
